I've been wanting to set up a DNA group for GUINN/GUYNN.I checked the site and couldn't find one with a administrator and group so would probably have to set one up.
I have a direct male GUINN descendant for my GUINN line that says he will do a DNA.
There are 2 recommended tests - either a 37 marker or a 67 marker for a direct male lineage.
I've been wanting to do the 67 marker as it is more likely to connect across ocean.I think the regular cost for this test is $238 but occasionally they have periods where the price is reduced for $199.The 37 marker I've seen occasionally reduced for $119 and this test will usually show matches in the U.S.The prices are on the site with the various tests. The test kits only require a swab inside the cheek so are easy to do.
If you want to check out the site here is the web address:
To learn your male lineage you need a living direct male descendant with father, gr-father, gr-gr-grandfather and ba ck all with same surname.Females with surnames cannot do this test.
I've been lucky to find a direct male descendant in my GUINN line.
If I believe enough people would be interested I might start a group for the GUINN and administer but probably would also want a co-administrator to handle site with me.
These group sites are kinda cool because people can post their lineages even if they don't have a DNA on their line yet.
You can go to this website and search surnames in your family lines to see if there are any groups participating and look at those who have done DNA and matched with others.
