The last name might have been Storm but Ström is more common.
I'm having problems locating him on various Swedish emigration databases but none of those are complete. He is certainly not on the Emibas CD, which is made from registrations in the Swedish parish to go to a foreign country. That cd is about 75% complete. I am now trying to find him on the Emihamn database, made from registrations with **Swedish** port police before leaving Sweden. Many Swedes left through a foreign port, such as those in Norway, Denmark, and Germany, and probably won't be on Emihamn.
What is your definition of "late 1880s"? Mine is 1870-1900. You can find a column for a year of immigration on the U.S. Federal Censuses for 1900-1910-1920-1930. Those aren't necessarily completely accurate but provide a smaller time period than "late 1880s". The "late 1880s", using any definition, was a time of VERY heavy emigration from Sweden, so we need as many clues as possible.
The best place to learn about the parish our ancestors were born in and/or came from in Sweden is the Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Center. They have records which are difficult or even impossible to find elsewhere. They often work miracles but their extensive record collection is not online.

We need the parish in Sweden to find anything about this man's ancestors and other relatives. The records were kept in the parish.
