Brian, I think I have finally identified my Reuben C. Haile of Bedford Co. as the son of Nathaniel Hale of Carroll County, Tennessee. Reuben was born in 1813.He married Harriet (last name unknown) and had several daughters (no sons). Reuben Hale died 24 Aug 1899 in Shelbyville, Bedford Co.
This family appears consistently throughout the census schedules of Bedford County, so I feel certain that your Reuben Hale (born 1802) must be a different Reuben, since he lived in Missouri and married the Weaver sisters.
Nathaniel Hale was the son of Thomas and Patience Hale of Virginia. He was born in Virginia in 1770 and died in Carroll County, Tennessee, November 1843.It may be possible, of course, that your Reuben was a descendant of some other member of this family of Hales, though I have no record of another Reuben.
Did you check the 1880 census to determine where his parents were born? (Doubtful that he would have still been alive, since he would have been nearly 80).....
Good luck on your research. It is intriguing that the name "Reuben"-- which does not appear elsewhere in my family-- is shared by these two Hales.Maybe we WILL find a connection!
