I read your message with interest as I have found this name connected to my Johnston family. On 31/5/1849 the ship Charles arrived in N York and on the passenger list were 3 males named Hair from Tubbermore Co Londonderry Also listed were James Johnston aged 20 and his sister Jane aged 18. These 2 are the children of John Johnston and his first wife Margaret Lennox. Since they left Ireland in 1849 they have not been in touch with the family here.I found the Hair brothers[I assume] and the Johnston siblings living as a household in Philidelphia in the 1851 census. After that I cannot be sure if I am looking at the right people but I suspect that Jane married one of the Haire brothers and James is listed in 1860 as a carter married with a family. Do you by some stroke of fortune have any data on a Hair married to a Jane Johnston in the early 1850s Please email me at [email protected] and do not hesitate to ask if you think I can be of any assistance with Irish research.
