Hakins in Northumberland
Hi Folks
I'm trying to construct a detailed tree of all Hakins who were in Northumberland during the 19th century.
Most of these can be traced back to one or two families from Swaledale, who seem to have left for "pastures new" when there was a down-turn in the lead-mining industry in that area in the 1830's.
My 3x great grandfather had at least 40 great-grandchildren who survived to adulthood.
One of my great-uncles emigrated to Canada (1929) and I know of one other family who emigrated to the USA in 1892:there may well be others.
I would love to hear from anyone who is descended from any Hakins living in Northumberland prior to about 1901 - or indeed any descendents of the remaining families who were still in Swaledale at this time.
Regards
Vicky
