Hello, I will relay the genealogical information that my mother's aunt, Lilla Bullington Brackeen, published in her book "All in Our Family" in 1976.It may not offer you any additional information, though.
"John Halbert, b. 1781/82, Stokes county, N.C.; married 5 Oct. 1805 to Susanna Higgins b. 1789/90 in Ky. (sister of hiram Higgins architect who designed Founders Hall at Athens college and early buildings at Athens, AL.)john Halbert and family moved from Lincoln County, Tn to Limestone County, Al in 1820.He inherited a portion of land on N. side Elk River in Limestone Co., Al via his father's estate. He built their log cabin home there. In later years it was moved to Brown's Ferry St. Athens,by the mcEniry family and is one of the town's historic landmarks.his death was after 1860; and susanna's death after 1850, likely both in Limestone County. "Athens Post" 1967 in June used an item that in 1818 the father of susanna Higgins and her brother Hiram H. Higgins, built a two-story edifice in Cottonport (Mooresville-Belle Mina area now) using 400,000 bricks. That was the first brick edifice of the county. This item was reprinted in "Scraps" written in Limestone County years later by the late Dr. Thomas Stith Malone and prepared by Miss Mary Malone."
She then lists children and later states that by 1855 after his wife's death he sold some Limestone County land.By 1857 or 1858, he moved to TX and died at Sabine County, TX after 1860 (contradicting what she earlier wrote about them dying in Limestone Co.)
Aunt Lilla listed the genealogy as follows:
William Halbert, b. Essex County, VA 1790 d. before Oct. 18, 1718.
Joel Halbert (son) b. 1712, d. ca 1762m. Frances Elizabeth Jones, 1740 daugter of John Jones, Francis Randolph Jones.
Joel Halbert, jr. b. 1749, VA d. 1818 m. Hannah (Zwing?)
I realized you may already have this information or it may have been disproven in the years since my great-aunt published her findings.I apologize if it is of no value to you.
Incidentially, there is a Higgins cemetery very close to my home.I can check there if you have an interest.
