Thank you very much for replying to my query & sending so much info.
I'm now unsure about Isabel's surname. My great aunt, Laura Louise PORTEOUS, was very well educated and a historian & genealogist, studied at U. of Salamanca & Oxford, worked as assistant to the archivist at the Louisiana Historical Society, where she translated the colonial records of Louisiana from the old French & Spanish. She stayed in touch with her relatives in Scotland & traveled there frequently. She was the grandaughter of Janet WILKIE, who was the grandaughter of Isabel HALDANE, and she stated that Isabel's surname was HALDANE.I had noticed the name was sometimes HADDON/HADDEN.I've done research long enough to be used to spelling variations.
I had the LDS film previously to find the children & found the 4 I listed.I missed the others that you sent.I went back to what I previously found:
Jean, b. 3 Dec 1764, Christened 9 Dec 1764, witnesses: Alexander WILKIE & Robert HALDANE Isabel, b. 18 May 1775, Christened 21 May 1775, witnesses: Alexander WILKIE & Robert HADDON James, b. 2 Oct 1777, Christened 12 Oct 1777, witnesses: Robert KIRKWOOD & Robert HADDEN George, b. 2 Oct 1780, Christened 9 Oct 1780, witnesses: George WILKIE & John CRAIGE
If the witnesses are the grandparents, at least for the earlier children, then Duncan's father is Alexander & Isabel's father is Robert. It's interesting that there isn't a child named Alexander, unless there was one that died at birth & not christened or the birth not recorded.Or maybe Duncan's father was deceased & Alexander was an uncle?
I have some highlander ancestors & have ben told that the naming pattern was: the 1st son after the father's father the 2nd son after the mother's father the 1st daughter after the mother's mother the 2nd daughter after the father's mother
