I am not the person who posted to findagrave. I did, however, find a reference to William Elliott fighting in the War of 1812. It was from a History of Clinton County under Horace Hall:

Apparently William lived and died in Virginia and his widow moved to Ohio. I am somewhat dubious because it also states Andrew Hall was in the Union Army for over 3 years and fought at chickamauga and was wounded twice. His grandson Corliss (my grandfather) told me (and confirmed by records) that Andrew got shot in the ass serving under Wm Tecumseh Sherman when overrun at Shiloh on the first day of that battle. Andrew was mustered out shortly thereafter. Andrew is buried in Preble County OH.
Anyway, look to Virginia records regarding William Elliott.
BTW, Horace and his wife Cora (Willoughby) are buried at Miami Cemetery, Waynesville OH. She died in the late 40s when she fell down some basement stairs in a house just outside of Harveysburg OH. He in 1965 just shy of his 100th birthday. Apparently, Horace was a mean old cuss. I just met him once when I was a wee lad. His son Corliss served in the 1st anti aircraft machine gun battalion in WWI. His only child, Margaret, was my mother.
