Guess we are both still looking at family stuff. I did take a break for awhile. I have never heard of a Shorty Hampel in our family tree. Seems only 3 Hampel girls came to Calif. Louise, Caroline and Margaret all married and the last names changed. It sounds like another Hampel family to me. Is there any confirmed information that the Jacob you traced is the brother of Peter Hampel that others have information on? I found in a 1870 census in Carondelet a Jacob(49 yrs.)married to Josephine(2nd wife)with five children living next door to Peter Hampel(32 yrs.)married to Anna with six children. Also a brother John(40)living with Jacob's family. I didn't have any luck with passenger & immigration files. Hope you had a good summer.
