I see many references to the fact that Hans Jacob Hanchey (Handschi, Handshij, Handschin, Handshy etc.) was born ca. 1700 in the Palatinate region of Germany and other information that he was born in Switzerland.
Other researcher say he bought or was awarded land 1745 in New Hanover, SC and that the land document reflects that he was a "Palatine Protestant."
I believe there may be more than one Jacob Hanchey floating around ca. 1740 and would like to see some sources for the information in the first two paragraphs above.
Have you seen any of these sources? Are they in Lurline Hanchey's book which I have not yet had the opportunity to read.
I have also found the record of a marriage between Mathias Keller and Maria Handshy in 1740 in Orangeburg in the Book of Record.
There is a message in the SCMAR, and I cannot remember what the abbreviation stands for, that the descendants of Mathias and Maria "came to Rapides Parish, La. from Orangeburg Co. S.C. ca. 1813.William Keller bought property from George Keller 1825 in Cheneyville."(This was a Keller post.)
