I have since found quite a bit about Hattie Stoddard Handley's family!
For one, she was married to Milton Handley, who according to the 1900 census, was b. in Ind. Mar 1860.Father was listed as b. IL mother as b. IN.They were enumerated in Champaign IL, on N. Hickory St.At the time, they had 4 children. He is shown as a carpenter.
1) Marion F (other records show that his name was Marion Fay, sometimes called M. Fay) b. Sept 1886 in NE (again according to the 1900 census)His WWI registration showed that he had a prosthetic leg)
2) Nellie b. 4 Sept 1888 in WI- would later marry a Harold Spurway, born in India to English parents, James and Annie Spurway, a cigar store clerk in Billings MT in the 1920 census. (he also had a sibling born in Egypt... interesting family he was from)
3) Roy b June 1891 IL
4) a son...name looks like it starts with an N or a V...can't read it. b. Oct 1893 IL... it is possible that the name was Vern (see below for connection)...it looked short, 3 or 4 letters, from what I could tell.
It is of course possible they had or even adopted children after this, but I don't have that info.
I have found Handley's later in Billings with names that seem to indicate a family relationship. The names Vernon (Vernon was Hattie's brother), Charles (Charles was her father), Harold (Nellie's husb), and even Roy and Fay.Hattie did have a grandson, Harold Fay Handley b. Mont? d. OR?, parents M. Fay Handley and wife Zola.they also had Clarence (also one of Hattie's brother's names) and Marie. They were enumerated in Dawson MT in 1930.
Roy Handley was a veteran of WWI, but apparently never married, and died in 1938.Harold Spurway also died in 1938 in MT.Nellie Spurway died in 1976 in Pinehurst ID.
