anyone have any connection/information about the Cannon Street Baptist Chapel in Birmingham circa 1828 - 1840's that would link my family of HANDS?
William HANDS was a lecturer there 1828; his only known/confirmed son, Thomas HANDS started preaching there before going to Bristol Baptist College ageed 16 [recorded in the 1841 census]. After Thomas married he went to Jamaica on Missionary work with his wife ANN SMITH. Thomas returned to England, with his family [3 known children = Thomas Larter (1845); Sarah Ann (1847); Marianne (1851)], settling in Salisbury, where my grtgrandfather George Herbert was born (1855). Thomas continued his Baptist preaching, before dying in 1870.
Tantalisingly, I have found an EBENEZER HANDS, born in Birmingham, to a William Hands. Ebenezer also became a Baptist Minister [1857, Ebenezer Baptist Chapel, Appledore, Devon; and 1861 census for Pontypool, Monmouthshire]. Ebenezer later moved to Camberwell with wife Martha [nee Napper] and sons [Frank (1858); Thomas (1891)]and daughter Anne Martha (1889) - all born Newcastle Upon Tyne]. Ebenezer died 1890, in Camberwell. Ebenezer is recorded as an Artisan in the 1881 census.
Anyone who may be related to Thomas Larter [born Kingston Jamaica], Frank, Ebenezer, or even Reverend Thomas's daughter Sarah Ann [also born Kingston, Jamaica, 1847, married John CRAIG], information and or suggestions would be very welcome.
