In 1938 my grandfather, Emil Hanke, visited Lenz. Looking for the birth record of his grandfather, Wilhelm Friedrich Hanke, born in 1826 in Lenz, he spoke with a Pastor Martin who lived at Parlin a village about a mile from Lenz. He wrote about this experience and in the letter he says Pastor Martin gave him the following information about another Hanke family with a Wilhelm Friedrich Hanke born in 1831 in Lenz.
This is the information as typed in my grandfather's letter:
Christian Hanke ( a "Bauer") and his wife Maria Hanke (Geborne Labke) had a son by the name of Christian Friedrich Hanke, born April 2, 1797 in Lenz This Friedrich married Dorothea Maria Schwantes, 1830 and two sons were born of this marriage named Wilhelm Friedrich Hanke, born July 15, 1831 in Lenz (This Wilhelm went to Michigan and settled in Hemlock. He had a son Karl, who might still be living, and Karl had three daughters, who still live in Hemlock.)
August Hanke, born in Lenz, married Louisa Mallow and from this marriage came a son named Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Hanke, born 1866 in Lenz.
-------------- There is more information in this letter about the Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Hanke family.
