Acct. Bk.1) and so must have been born by 1720 (polls were 21 yrs.).On 7 Mar 1739/40 (OB 11) John Hanks, son and heir of William Hanks plt. agst. William Erskiens def.On 5 Aug 1740 (OB 11) John Hanks, son and heir of William Hanks dec’d., his action agst. William Erskin dismissed not prosecuting.John and Mary Hanks had son Mott Hanks 21 Apr 1742 (NFP Register).Went to Dobbs Co., NC.).Another son, Epahroditus Hanks in his Rev. War pension application in Sumpter Dist. SC 1 Nov. 1832 stated he Epaphroditus Hanks age 85 yrs, born 25 Jan 1747 Northumberland Co., Va. says his father and family emigrated from VA. to NC and settled in Dobbs Co. and there remained until he entered the service in the winter of 1776.

NC.John, Mot, and Ephaphroditus are listed on the 1769 Dobbs Co. Tax Lists and John Hanks Sr. is on the 1779 Voters List.John Sr. is deceased by mid 1780 when Mary Hanks is taxed in Dobbs Co. along with Epa and Mott Hanks.By the 1790 census Epa and Moot are still in Dobbs Co. but John Hanks (Jr.) is in the part of Dobbs that became Wayne Co. with 2 males 16 and up, 2 males under 16 and 5 females.
