Stewart, Earl of Galloway. file GD138/1/2346 Oct 1597 Instrument of Sasine at hand of Michael Cochrane N.P. narrating that Symon McCryistine of Munkhill (possibly uncle of William Houstoun of Cutreoch, Wigtownshire) as bailie of the sheriff of Wigton conform to Crown precept dated at Edinburgh 9 Sept. 1597, infeft William Gordoun son and heir of the dec’d Alexander Gordoun of Clone in a 2 merkland of the 3½ merkland of Clone, held of John Dunbar of Mochrum as superior Wit:- Henry McCulloch in Airdleir, John McMorran messenger, John Brown in Clone and James Carnoquhane servitor to Thomas McCulloch of Barholm.
On the same vellum is another sasine of date 27 Feb. 1597/8 where John Maxwell of Mureith (Munreith) as bailie on Crown precept 2 Jan. 1598 infefts William Gordon in same lands, held in chief of the crown during the life of John Dunbar of Mochrum – witnesses:- Robert Hannay in Boghous, Henry McCulloch in Airdlair, his brother, Archibald McCulloch, and John McMorran, notary and messenger.
