According to the book, “The Gordons of Craichlaw”, Margaret Gordon was of from the family of the Gordons of Craichlaw :
"Margaret [Gordon] m.1stly 1666 Patrick Houston, eldest son of John Houstoun of Drummastoun,
and 2ndly to **William Hannay in Clugston.
Parick Houston 'of the Isle and Drummastoun', Whitehorn, Wigtownshire, Scotland, had a son who was known as Robert Houston 'of Owtone Berges'. "History of the Lands and their Owners in Galloway, Volume II", mentions Houston family :
John Houston was succeeded by his son Patrick.
In a contract, 19th September, 1671, it is agreed between Patrick Houstoun of Drummastoun, son of the deceased John Houstoun of Drummastoun, and Alexander Houstoun of Prestrie, that Patrick is to pay off the debts of his father, and, failing an heir male, Patrick is to succeed as heir to Alexander, for which he was to obtain a charter from the bishop of Galloway.
We suppose from this that Patrick and Alexander were brothers.
On the 10th March, 1680, Patrick Houston of Drummastoun had principal sasine of the lands of Half Isle, Four Outown, and Prestorie.
It is to be inferred from thisthat Alexander was then dead.
Patrick Houstoun married Margaret Gordon. They had issue,
- John, who succeeded.
There was also Robert Houstoun, who had sasine on 10 December, 1686, of the lands of Owtone Berges,
most probably he was another son.
Under date 9th April, 1697, John Houston was served heir to his father, Patrick Houstoun of Drumastoun, in the lands of Isle, Owtoune-Corwar, Owtoune-Burges, Owtoune-Chapell, Owtoune-Gallows, and Prestorie. He had principal sasine of the same on the 15th December, 1697.
Was Robert Hannay, who was in Ireland c.1641 with
Andrew Adair, from the "Clugston" lineage ?
Andrew Adair's mother was Jenette Houston who dc.1618 in Donegal, Ireland.
