HANSHAW-BEATY CONNECTION?
In an 1850 census of Darke Co. OHIO, MARY (BEATY) BATES gives her age as 50, born in Virginia.
A child of Mary Beaty Bates--GEORGE BATES--is missing from her household and is listed nearby in the household of Benjamin and Susanah Hanshaw. Since George's father, JOHN BATES, died in 1842, and his mother was stuggling to raise her children, GEORGE may have been visiting a neighbor or an aunt and uncle. SUSANAH gives her age 55, five years older than Mary, and is also listed as born in VA. Her husband was born in PA, and there are other Hanshaw men next door who say they were born in VA, so there are clues to migration of a large family.
IS IT POSSIBLE THAT SOMEONE KNOWS OF A MARY AND SUSANAH BEATY IN A FAMILY TREE FROM VA.
If anyone knows a link between these surnames in the VA-OH area, please let me know. I am trying to figure out MAry BEATY's parents and have precious little to go on, other than clues in the census.
