I have 3 Dorset/Wiltshire Harcourts in my tree - the 2 later Harcourts are descendants of John Harcourt & Sarah Phillips who married at Stourton in 1782 and the earlier Harcourt (Thomas) married Alice Suter at Silton in 1658.There must be a connection between your John Harcourt & Sarah Brown Charlton and the earlier John & Sarah above.
The marriages are Thomas Harcourt = Alse Suter, Silton, 8 Feb 1658 Lily Mary Harcourt = Walter William Suter, Bourton, 7 Jul 1903 John Harcourt = Eliza Suter, Wincanton District (probably Penselwood), Mar Q 1864.
I would be very interested in joining up the 2 families (and there must be a connection somewhere).
I am also very interested in the use of Valentine as a given name for this branch of Harcourts.Research into the 17th C connection above shows that the family were relatively wealthy linen weavers - as were the SUTERs.There are therefore a number of wills and some of these refer to a Valentine Harcourt (sometimes alias Ursen). This given name also appears much later which is very unusual (I have many many names from my other research interests and none have this given name or carry over a given name for so many generations).I have also picked up that a 'Popish' priest - Valentine Harcourt - was arrested in 1678 (albeit in Staffordshire).
I suppose the relevant PRs are at Trowbridge (for Mere) because the Harcourts were Stourton and Wolverton based in the 18th C.The other possibility is they are at Dorchester (for Gillingham/Bourton).
