Where did you get the Anne Reynolds? The surname of Hasel Sr's mother, Joseph Hardwicks wife Ann, has been a big mystery, some speculated that it was Hasel.
I have the Andrea files too, I think there is something to it, my hypothesis is the second James is the brother of Joseph Hardwick. James Hardwick died in 1749, close to the date of the second James dying on the Broad River. He is said to have died in Westmoreland, VA, but as near as I can tell the source is the location of his will.If he was going to establish a claim to land in SC he would make a will in VA before he left.
Joseph's great aunt Elizabeth married a Boyce, so there is an earlier Boyce connection.
Hasel, instead of being an uncle, could have been a cousin to Jemima's father, and called uncle as a respectful title.
But as you say, we don't have proof, only interesting similarities between Jemima's story and the known facts.
There were so many Hardwicks, Hardages, and Houlditches in SC during the late 1700's early 1800,I didn't think there could be that many people in SC. Surely with so many of us looking for the connections we can figure this out.
