William Hardie 1783
We are all descendents of William Hardie (Hardy) and have not been able to go back beyond William (his parents etc). In fact there is some confusion about William himself. A fact that we all have is:
William married Margaret Russell on 23 January 1812 in New Spynie.
We are all in consensus about their children except I don’t believe George 1826, John 1828 and Isabella 1830 are their children. Reasons:
From the 1841 Census there is a Williamborn 1793, in Moray, married to a Margaret born in1788, a messenger in Coagellechie, Elgin. Their children are George1826,John1828andIsabella1830, all born in Dallas. This means that he was 18 when he married and nowhere else can I find our Hardie’s in Dallas.
Our William was born in 1783 and the 10 year discrepancy is too much, besides our William died in 1834.
Facts that need to be confirmed with Sources:
1. William Hardie born in 1783 in Speymouth (Source: FamilySearch. Org - IGI) is in fact the William that married Margaret Russell.
There is another possibility, William Hardy christened 13 Apr 1791, in Elgin, Moray parents James Hardy andMargaret Peterkin. (I have more or less ruled out William Hardy christened 16 Nov 1785, in Elgin, Moray, parents John Hardy and Janet Moir. after speaking to a Moir descendent.)

2. William Hardie died in 1834.Source?
3. Margaret Russell born 20 May 1793 in Elgin (Source: FamilySearch. Org - IGI) appears to be the Margaret married in 1812, deduced from the Cormie connection.
Hereafter we have a lot of facts that need to be confirmed with Sources:
1843 - Complaint against her for dealing in second hand goods without a license
1861 - Entry in the Poor notes for Elgin Parish
1873 - Entry in the Poor notes for Elgin Parish
19 Oct 1873 - Death in Gallowgate, Aberdeen
We need references for these events and confirmation that this is our Margaret. It appears to be two Margarets, 1873 in Elgin and dying the same year in Aberdeen? I have old notes which I can revisit. In the census there is a Margaret Russell with an Isabella Hardie in 1851 with granddaughter Margaret Reid, and in 1861 and 1871 living in Aberdeen. This probably the one who died in Gallowgate. Also it seems strange that our Margaret Hardie was in the poorhouse, her family were all reasonably well off.
If we could start by listing all our sources and checking them to get some hard facts on William and Margaret and then move on with suggestions on how to go back from there.
