While researching I came across an administration bond filed with the state of Delaware. My ancestor, John M. Hargis, died intestate in 1811 and there were two people who signed the bond. The person who took on the main part of it was a woman named Ellis/Elliss Hargis/Hargus. Since I know John was married in 1799 to Sarah Ewing she may be a second wife but have no proof.
The other one to sign was Abraham Hargis. Other then his name I know nothing other then there was an Abraham living in Sussex County in 1810 but he was gone by 1820. The Delaware probate index does have an entry for an Abraham 1811-1816 so this very well may have been him. From 1797-1813 there was an Abraham Hargis who was keeper of the Cape Henlopen Lighthouse. I believe this to be the same one I am looking for.
In 1821 Ellis died and the record of administration was extended to two other people. Richard (can't make out last name but may be something like Becks or Becker) and William Stephenson.
