After digging endlessly through the Historical Society of Philadelphia records there are a few corrections and additions to be made to Abraham Hargis.
First off through DAR applications his wife is listed as Catherine Roe and that she is the mother of Catherine Hargis-Clifton. Also the marriage of Catherine Roe and Abraham Hargis at St. Michael's and Zion Church, Philadelphia, 20 February 1777. He did in fact marry there on that date but it was to Maria Magdalena/Mary Rau. She is the daughter of Johann Martin Rau and Anna Christina. Anna Christina is listed as Handwercker at their 1752 marriage but that may be because she was a widow at the time of her marriage to Rau. There was a Peter Handwercker in Philadelphia with a wife Anna Christina who died in 1748.
Abraham and Maria/Mary had three children baptized at St. Michael's and Zion, aka German Lutheran Church of Philadelphia: 1. John Martin (named after his paternal grandfather Johann martin Rau), born 10 December 1777, baptized 11 January 1778. John is my ancestor who married 5 August 1799, Sarah Ewing, daughter of Brinkley Ewing amd Mary Pow(d)ers. 2. Catherine, born 21 October 1779, baptized 10 March 1780. This is the Catherine who married Daniel Clifton. 3. georg Leonhard, born about June 1781. Georg was listed in the burial ledger of St. Michael's, 20 November 1781 at the age of 5 months.
Maria Rau-Hargis is also listed in the burial ledger there as Maria Hargos, martin Roh's daughter, 17 October 1781, aged 25-10-11. Her age matches almost perfectly the baptism at St. Michael's21 December 1755 of Maria Magdalena Rau, born 6 December 1755, daughter of Johann Martin Rau and wife Christina.
As per other wives of Abraham the only other proven wife is the Elizabeth he was married to by 1800 and was still married to at his death. He had other children according to his will but I do not have proof as to who their mother is so I leave her as unknown.Thomas, Mary (wife of Richard Beebe), and Deborough (wife of a Gordon and may be Deborah). He also mentions grandsons Abraham Hargis Beebe and George Hargis Gordon who got his mother's share.
