Richard Hargrave, born 1616, the immigrant to Virginia Colony in 1634 was actually Richard Hargrave Jr. of Wakefield, Yorkshire, England. He married Sarah Hancock about 1640-1641 in Lower Norfolk County, Virginia. She was born 1612 at Bishopsgate, London, Middlesex, England and was the daughter of William Hancock and Sarah Burton and granddaughter of Thomas Hancock and Sybil Coleman.
There is a marriage record found by Dorothy Wulfeck and published in her marriage books of early Virginia, as well as other documentary evidence which constitutes a preponderance of evidence and confirms that Sarah was, indeed, the wife of Richard Hargrave Jr. It is believed that she died in about 1681, Lower Norfolk County, Virginia, 5 years before her husband's passing in 1686.
