Norene Young Harley died peacefully on January 21, 2006. She is survived by her daughter Sue Harley, Atlanta, daughter and son-in-law Robert and Jenny Newbern, Neptune Beach, FL and granddaughter Lindsey Harley Newbern. She is also survived by her sister and closest friend Mary Frances Roach, Atlanta, her brother Glenn Young (Jane), Titusville, FL, sister-in-law Loma Young, Ringgold, GA, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Rutherford "Ruds" Harley and her brother Emmett Young. Norene was raised in Bainbridge, GA. She was fascinated by the piano and started piano lessons when she was 5 years old. She became a wonderful pianist. She moved to Atlanta in the 1940's to attend nursing school at Crawford Long Hospital. She made lifelong friends with the young women she met while studying nursing. While in school she met her husband and they eloped after only 4 weeks. They had a happy marriage until his death in 1975. He was the love of her life, as she was his. They raised their daughters in Decatur, GA. The first piece of furniture Ruds bought for their house was a piano. On summer nights Norene enjoyed playing her piano with the front door open. Children played on the lawn while neighbors gathered to listen to her play the piano. In 1977 following her husband's death, Norene returned to nursing and worked for Dr. Carl Jones until he retired. She made many dear friends with co-workers and patients during this time in her life. Norene enjoyed traveling and in her later years visited Hawaii, Alaska, Western Europe, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, the Caribbean and many of the National Parks out west. Norene was loved by many and had a wonderful life. She will be sorely missed by those who loved her. A graveside service will take place in Bainbridge, GA on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at Oak City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer's Association or Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257.
