As mentioned in my previous post, Phebe (Harriman) Bayliss appears to be one of the New England Harrimans, not one of the NYC Harrimans from which Averill Harriman descends. Averill's immigrant ancestor was William Harriman, who was born in England in 1760 and arrived in NYC in 1795. Many people wish they were of that lineage, but the descendants of William seem to be well documented and it does not appear that Phebe is one of them.
Charles and Phebe (Harriman) Bayliss can be found in the Denver CO censuses of at least 1900-1920 (have not looked for them in 1930 yet) and they are in Grayson Co. TX in 1880. Phebe always states she was born in Minnesota, which would be consistent with Phebe, daughter of Solomon and Julia Harriman; Soloman Harriman and family are also found in Grayson Co. TX in 1880. I have no knowledge of the ancestry of Charles Bayliss, since my interest is basically limited to Harrimans. I do trace Harriman females through their children and children's spouses, but not usually further than that; I know I have to put a limit on Harriman research if I am ever to finish the manuscript for vol. 2 of the HFA Harriman genealogy.
I would love to hear your source for assigning the maiden name of Harriman to Phebe Bayliss - perhaps you have seen her death record?
