although Clayborn Harris 1765-1850 is reported to have bragged that he was part Potowatami, this appears to be improbable. If born in 1765 in NC, then his mother would have had to conceive in Michigan part of the British Colonies and prior to the Rev. War.and just after the French ceded the territories to the British at the conclusion of the French and Indian War.
Or his father was a free roaming Potowatami who conjoined with either black slave woman or white woman.
He may have been part Indian, but it is improbable that it was as he stated.Maybe he picked up the tribe name most familiar to him in the Indiana territories.
