All these pages or portions of them have been published at some point or another by the great Harrod genealogists of the past and a few of the cousins have photocopies (alas, some like Helynn Carrier's copies were quite poor photocopies of photocopies), but today I went to the Indiana State Library, Genealogy Division in Indianapolis where copies, some photos, some the form of "photocopies" they had in the time and some typewritten manuscripts of the Draper files, Rachel Henton's manuscript, etc. which were used by Susan Atkins (a now deceased resident of Indianapolis)and were placed in the manuscripts division. The individual (full pages, some were partial pages)of "Rachel Henton's Notebook" are about 5 inches across by 7 1/4 inches vertical and seem to be photographic negatives where the writing is white and the background is black. In my walking around today I seem to have lost the transcriptions of some pages on another sheet of paper I had so this will be part 1 and I'll have to relook them up.
I do not know the original order of the following pages. They are transcribed as appears on the page--sentence and ends of each line are same as in original, although with this typefont I cannot reproduce the beauty of the writing such as the many flourishes on the upper case letters and the r's written like backwards 3's. Pages are separated by "____________________" (Spelling and punctuation as in original). I use the "&" for the less fancy normal way of writing the and sign like short vertical line segment and a cursive c to the left with bottom part going through the line. The pages this post:
Family Record Deaths John Harrod Died Dec 28th1781 aged 45 years Rachel Harrod Died Nov. 16th. 1806 aged 67 years. _______________________________________________ Family Record Marriages John Harrod & Rachel Shepherd was married August 5th 1758 in Pennsylvania near German town Philadelphia [NOTE: crossed out and "Fayette" written above] Co. & raised all their family at that place. They removed to Kentucky-Ohio & Indiana. His father left an estate in England of considerable value. While the above John Harrod had preposed at one time to go over to settle up & receive but owing to the difficult times arising out of the Revolution ary war & the depreciation of the old continental money--a large amount of which he had acumulated. To defray his expenses there-he was _______________________________________ unable to proceed and owing to the loss of papers & the death of witnesses who could have identified the heirs & still remains in that state. _______________________________________ John Harrod great- grandfather to Rachel on her mother's side Henton ^came from England to America some years before the American Revolution & settled in one ofthe New England ^states where he lived until his house was burned & his wife killed by Indians during his absense from home. On his return home at the time the Indians were at his house he came across a canoe in the vicinity of his house that had been loaded with a part of his household furniture & the hand of his wife which had been cut off by the Indians to secure a ring-a wedding ring given by Harrod ________________________________________ to his wife before their marriage. He married again and had children by his second wife but there he lived afterwards but what became of him is not known now. Mr.[?] Stinson grand- father to Rachel Henton on her father's side came from Ireland & settled in New Jersey-from where his descendants emigrated to New York and Ohio. _____________________________________________ Births the folowing are the Children of John & Rachel Harrod

William Harrod born Oct 21st 1765
Catherine Harrod born Jan 14th 1767

Rachel Harrod born Aug 5th 1771
John Harrod born Apr 3. 1773
Lewe Harrod born Aug 21. 1776 ______________________________________________ Michael Schwing comments on the above: Death of John Harrod who married Rachel Shepherd--either the year or the age is wrong for as it is so stated it would make him younger than his half-brother Samuel, first son of his father John and Sarah Moore. Now if the 4 & 5 are reversed and it should actually read "54" (said transcription error is not seen on any other page above) then presuming his death accurate (as has been pointed out by Cousin Brad Cooper a descendant of Lewe Harrod Newland, Rachel's mother Elizabeth would have known the birthdates of her brothers and sisters and her parents death dates and as we both noticed the Birth, Death, Marriage records read like a family Bible from which the information may have been copied), then that matches the 1727 date for the birth. Marriage of John and Rachel Shepherd--Fayette County written in a different hand and was formed according to Bernice Swainson in 1783.
Births of children of John and Rachel Shepherd Harrod: Thomas Harrod's date of birth is given in the bio of his grandson john H. Harrod as 10 Feb 1760.That of William in his Revolutionary War pension application No. S16398, lists his date of birth as 26 Sep 1764. Usually the difference is explained by the difference in Old Time and New Time which was changed in England in their day or shortly before and therefore the American Colonies too. However said conversion should have dropped 12 or 13 days and after that some people added a year reflecting the change in New Years Day from March (25?) to Jan. 1. Neither "conversion" is correct above.
"Lewe" Harrod--the copy I have from Susan Atkins' copy is so clear that it is "Lewe" that I dont understand the confusion with Levi.
