Martha J. Pouncey, b. 1858, Alabama, was a daughter of George B. Pouncey, b. 1824, Alabama, and Patience Churchwell, b. Dec 1833, Alabama. Martha's grandfather was John B. Pouncey, b. 1789, S.C., and her grandmother was Mary "Polly" Holmes, b. 1790, N.C. According to a book of Crenshaw County marriage records, Martha married "P.H. Hartin" in that county on 30 Jan 1876. I know nothing of this Hartin except his initials. Martha Pouncey Hartin's siblings were William Thomas (treasurer and constable in Crenshaw County), Mary E., Elijah Jefferson (Crenshaw County farmer), and Sarah Ann (married J.J. Best). George B. Pouncey was a farmer and justice of the peace in Lowndes County before he died in the Civil War.
