Are you sure you have the right spelling for "Jonathan" Hartsell? there are a few "Jonathan" Hartsell listings on census from NC early on and one who supposedly went to fight in alabama during the Civil War who is buried there. There are plenty named Mary in the Hartsell family tree who were born in NC but none named Virginia Mary. There are no descendents of Jonathan or "Johnathan" from what I could find either but I also found in Eunice's book that she'd followed only 2 of the 4 sons born to Johann Leonhardt and Esther Leipp his first cousin)and 2nd wife) George and John while two of the sons aren't followed in the family tree by her except a brief mention of 'Jonathan Hartzel' (also spelled Hartsel or Hartsell) I believe at one time she mentioned during a conversation I had with her while visiting her home around 1990 that Jonathan's son (named Jonathan) had a whole lot of children (around 18 or so) I am searching her stories to see any mention of this in her written history of the Hartsell family.
She didn't follow their line and he had moved away from NC so she wasn't sure where he went.
I believe he's the one who Hartselle Alabama is named for but am not positive of this so don't quote me. At one time I was communicating with someone who was related to the Jonathan Hartsell who's buried in alabama. I have to go through all my email archives to find that info and have hundreds of communications from over 20 plus years to search through so hopefully a simple word search will bring it up..since my son is named Jonathan it's not going to be all that easy.
Have you located any more information at all on your Mary Hartsell? it makes sense if she had spelled her name also as "Hartzel" this could be a daughter of Jonathan's son Jonathan who left NC where his father was buried near his broters who went there also.
