I sent you an extensive reply to one of your E-Mails that you sent to me directly about 2 weeks ago re: research etc.
I don't know where Mary Hartwell was living before Joseph brought her to Kent Island, but he had gotten her pregnant and he wasn't going to own up to it, so he sent Morgan Williams who had an uncle/nephew relationship with Joseph Wickes.I suspect that Joseph was the uncle but maybe not.Anyway according to importation records she had chn. Mary and Joseph. There is confusion as to which Joseph died, whether it was a newborn or Joseph by his first wife. Then, is Mary Gouldhawke his dau. by prior marriage or is this Mary actually the daughter of Marie/Mary Hartwell and her first husband.
I suspect that Mary Hartwell was in IoW VA which is where Joseph migrated from to Kent Island in 1650.There is also a lawsuit involving a David Spiller of NU VA and the fact that Joseph was attemping to get out of servant relationship with Spiller ca 1652 as I recall.
Regardless of who the Joseph was who died, the surviving Joseph d. c. 1701/2 in MD. By the way Mary Goldhauke's baby, a son survived and was prob. raised by Alex. Nash whose dau. was mentioned in Mary's will.
As I mentioned before there was a Walter Weeks that moved from Kent to Northumberland about the same time that Joseph moved from IoW to Kent.I know that he was a tutor so prob. somewhat educated.
As before, I believe that your time would be better spent at the Library of VA and the archives in MD.I have been to he IoW court house and some parts of the Northern Neck. Not sure what you will find in the counties that is not available at the central locations. Many things are available on line at the MD Archives which is where I got most of my info.
I am not tracking on the part where you state that Nathaniel Pope encouraged Joseph and his family to move to VA.As I recall Joseph was first recorded abt. 1700 in Westmoreland and apparently he was not yet m. to Blagdon. There was a Robert Weeks who signed a document that was recorded in Westmoreland but I am not so sure that this Robert Weeks was actually signing this document in VA, but rather in England.Besides that is the only mention of anyone other than Joseph in Westmoreland in the early 1700's.
If you can't find the other E-Mail in reply to yours, let me know and will forward again.
