Attleboro - Ruth Georgina (Wilson) McGovern, 83 of George Street, formerly of North Attleboro, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro surrounded by the love of her family. She was the wife of the late Vernon John Vincent McGovern who died on July 24, 1979.
Born in Nova Scotia, Canada on Feb. 21, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Percy and Ida (HARTZ) WILSON. She was raised and educated in Nova Scotia, where she later married her husband. They had four children prior to moving to the United States and settling in Attleboro many years ago. She and her four children would later become US citizens.
Mrs. McGovern lived in North Attleboro for 25 years prior to returning to Attleboro several years ago. While living at Elm Terrace in North Attleboro, she was involved in many of the activities at the complex and at the neighboring North Attleboro Senior Center.
She was employed as a jewelry worker for the C. Ray Randall Mfg. Co. in the Attleboro Falls neighborhood of North Attleboro for 22 years prior to her retirement in 1986.
Mrs. McGovern was a communicant of St. Mark's Church, Attleboro Falls.
Family was of the utmost importance to her, and she treasured each and every moment she spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She treasured friendships and spending time with people. Since moving to the Ridgewood Court Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Attleboro, she enjoyed many activities at the center and visiting with other residents of the nursing home.
In earlier years, her favorite times were spent knitting and crocheting, dancing, listening to country music, shopping and playing bingo.
She leaves two sons, Robert V. McGovern of Attleboro and Percy J. McGovern of Providence; two daughters, Delma M. DeBaggis of Falmouth and Shirley A. Dufault of Lincoln RI; 10 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; two sisters, Myrtle O'Rourke of Nova Scotia and Jean Shaw of New Brunswick, Canada, and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Lois Newry and George Wilson.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004 at 11 a.m. in St. Mark's Church, 105 Stanley St., Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro with the Rev. James Morse officiating.
Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Attleboro Falls.
Following graveside services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of fellowship and remembrance.
At Mrs. McGovern's request, visitation has been respectfully omitted.
