Ann, I am interested in your Buckner Harwell. I am searching for the ancstors of my Preston BROWN of Jackson Co Al, b,1818 son of George Brown of Kyle's Springs AL (d. 1840s) and Sarah, who lived into the 1860's
I have a record that says LEWIS BROWN, LESTER MORRIS, BUCKNER HARWELL and others settled 1n 1808 Sims Settlement TN. Brown said to be on Richland Creek Near Crosswater Springof Elk River Lewis said to have settled on a place called the IRA BROWN Place.A GEORGE BROWN wasa Primitive Baptistpreacher nearby. This area is only about five miles from Madison Co AL parent Co of Jackson
In Brunswick Co VA were also Buckner Harwell and LewisNelson Brown Sr (m. Martha Richardson of Albemarle Co ).
Lewis Nelson Brown Jr of Albemarle is said to have married CASSANDRA HARWELL of Brunswick Co. Unfortunately no dates given.
I am just beginning to look into all this, and am limited to research on the Internet. Do you have anything further on the Buckner-Brown relationship? I have been stuck for years on Preston's origins. On the census he has said his birthplace was VA or NC, his brother Smith Brown's bp was KY and his sister's TN .I do have more on the TN/AL family, just not before that. Would appreciate anything further back.
My Preston Brown of AL named a son CHARLES NELSON and one undocumented source says that Preston had a brother Lewis. (There was one in the AL area) The Lewis in TN is too old to be a Col. Lewis Brown said to have been in the Civil War, but I have found nothing to verify his existence. Thanks for any help. Fay
