Myrtle (Gardner) Hasbrouck and Henry Hasbrouck
Mrs. Henry Hasbrouck passed away Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the home of her parents. The cause of her death was puerperal uremia. She was confined to her bed only five days and during this time her condition was critical. Her sudden death came as a severe shock to the family and many friends. She had been enjoying good health and was up in town on Tuesday evening.
Myrtle was the fifth child of Mr. and Mrs. George O. Gardner and was born March 14, 1893. At the time of her death she was aged 21 years, 6 months and 6 days. She was a member of the graduating class of 1911 of the Humeston High School. On September 28, 1913, she and Henry Hasbrouck were united in marriage. Their married life was of short duration, lacking eight days of one year. Mr. and Mrs. Hasbrouck were friends from childhood and their marriage was a consummation of plighted vows. They were united in heart, and were looking out on a happy and prosperous future. She was a true companion, lovable and happy, always satisfied, and counting on all that was well.
Humeston has always been her home. She was of a pleasant disposition and was loved by all who knew her. While a child she began attending Bible School at the Christian Church and never graduated in that school. She was a faithful scholar and a ready helper. When about twelve years of age she united with the church and lived a consistent Christian life all her days. In the Endeavor Society she was an active member, loyal and true, filling every position to which she was appointed with satisfaction to all.
She is survived by her husband and parents and one sister, Mrs. Walter Morey and four brothers, Reverend Ralph Gardner, of Haigler, Nebraksa; Dwight, of Dallas, Texas; and Darryl and Kenneth, of Humeston. Her death marks the passing away of one loved and honored by all who knew her and her life of purity and truth. She sleeps the sleep of the righteous and waits the coming of the Lord.
The funeral services were held at the Christian Church at 9:30 o'clock Tuesday morning. The services were conducted by Reverend A.B. Cornell, of Van Wert, a good friend of the family and former Pastor of the local church. Many people paid last honors to the young woman. The active pall bearers were: Charles Humeston, Walter Lewis, Ernest Lewis, Leo Thomas, George Goff, and Albert Yates. The honorary pall bearers were members of her Sunday School class of which her mother was teacher. They were: Mrs. Frank Hobbs, Mrs. Lulu McMillan, Miss. Leone Silvers, Misses Dora and Edith Joy, Mrs. Alma Conner, Miss. Gladys Blondin, Mrs. Elsie Blevins, Miss. Florence Mock, Miss. Eva Culbertson, Miss. Alma Pryor, Miss. Lavar Bolon, Miss. Catherine Heskett and Miss. Hattie McCart.
Interment was made in the Leon Cemetery.
