I am afraid I did not find much on John or Mary. The middle initial had come from either one of the army records; I cannot say if the record was valid anymore as I do not have it anymore and stupid me wasn't putting in my sources at that time; or I recieved the W. from the son who was listed as a "Jr." who had the W. as his middle initial, can't remember. Whether you choose to accept the W. as his middle initial will be a personal choice since there is no valid source. Not sure what the W. stands for, probably "William" as his grandson's name is John William Hatfield. As for John's parents, not sure anyone has found them. He was born in 1740 and died in 1840 and that too can be approximate dates. Mary Lockerman died in 1850 and I do not have her birth date. They were both buried in the Hatfield buring ground in Fox River, but the stone is one that was made at a later date, not the original one. I have been there and seen the other graves but none of the stones are readable (erosion has lifted the faces right off and no words are left). Maybe 10 stones.
Oh yeah, John Hatfield is my 4th-greatgrandfather, I am a 7th descendant (not direct). As follows;
1. John W. Hatfield +Mary Lockerman
2. John W. Hatfield +Mary Fraser
3. John William Hatfield +Ruth Olivia McHugh
4. Ella Jean Hatfield +Johnson Renwick Pettis
5. Rexford Corbett Pettis +Effie Evelyn Hughes
6. Edward Donald Pettis +Catherine Alice Stiles
7. Mary Louise Pettis (me) +Malcolm James Brown
Then again we are related again another way as John's daughter Elizabeth married my 4th-greatgrandfather John Pettis on my fathers side of Pettis'. Making that one more generation than the last.
