So as I may have mentioned before, I've been trying to find Baton's father and I think I have a logical conclusion but nothing definitive (no smoking gun...yet). Anyway in my research, I found a William Hattaway from NC who had at least 3 boys named Irwin, Elisha, and Abel. They're relationship to their father has been proven through land deeds where William gave them each a portion of his land when he died in 1813. Those boys each sold their land and moved to Warren County, GA (confirmed through census records).
Well, I found out that William was in the Revolutionary War. I have a copy of the record from the National archives. He served with Capt. Martin Pfifers of North Carolina (the light dragoons). He only served for about 3-6 months but he served during 1778 when he was 15 years old.
So all those people that find their lineage through James Baton or/and one of the brothers (Elisha, Irwin, and Abel) are eligible for membership in the sons of the American Revolution. If you would like, I can send you a copy of the war record and more information if you're interested.
