Hi Charlotte,
My Hayman/Hyndman/Hydman/Amons were Gaelic speaking Scots. I have also read about a Clan Hyndman in Scotland of Scottish origin. The William Hayman that I descend from spoke Gaelic and was a soldier in the RNCR (Royal North Carolina Regiment). There is also a Clan Hyndman page on Wikipedia that talks about the Clans origins. I've never heard of German Hyndmans. My Haymans went through so many spelling variations that I don't know which spelling was the correct spelling...... same with my surname. The name Hayman and all the variations are found all over Britain and even in Ireland so who knows what the origin for each family was.
