My Mother is visiting Florida from Portsmouth, Hampshire, UK Her Great Grandfather was Samuel Haysom ,b about1840, d about 1925, married Eliza, b about 1852, d 1938. They lived in 33 Burlington Road, North End, Portsmouth, Hampshire. They had five sons; William, Bertram, twins George and Joseph and Samuel Joseph. Samuel Joseph, b 1870, d 1966 was her Grandfather and married Minnie Mariah Beaby, d 1958, at St. Mary's Church, Portsea in 1891. They had two sons William, b about 1908, d about 1988 and Samuel,b about 1906, d about 1966 and three daughters Minnie, b1898, d1978;Alice Victoria, b1901, d 1977; and Daisy Jeanie May , b1910 d1934 of TB. They all lived in Portsmouth and my mother has photographs of each of those mentioned above as well as many stories of their lives. I remember Samuel Joseph when he lived in 151 Chatsworth Avenue, Cosham, Portsmouth and he talked about his time in the Royal Navy. He joined as a Boy Seamen at 14 years old, served at least five years on the China Station at Wei hi wei during the 1890's and was due to retire as a Chief Petty Officer ( Armourer ) beforeWorld War 1. His service was extended until 1919 and he was stationed in the Shetland Islands. In retirement he was an expert gardener and successfully help feed an extended family duringthe rationing of World War 2. We have Haysom cousins living in Bath and Plymouth, England today.
