I may be able to help. My family are Hazels from Aberdeen. My grandfather James Hazel was born in 1894 (I think), the son of a George Hazel, who was a journeyman, and a Brebner (you will find Hazels linked on the Brebner website). He also had a brother named George who had a son named David, still alive and living in Meigle, Perthshire and a daughter Elinor (also still alive in her late 80s and living near Aberdeen).
James served in 4th Bn Gordon Highlanders between 1914-18 and was disabled (gassed). He married a the farmer's daughter (Alma) he met in 1915 while billeted on their farm in Cambridgeshire. They had two children, Beryl (1921-c1995) (later Beryl Mears) and my father, Basil James Brebner Hazel (1924-89). I believe my grandfather also had a sister who died young.
I now live in Berkshire,England, while my brother, Robin James Hazel, now lives in Chelmsford, Mass. USA. I have various relatives and James and George keep recurring as family names. I do have more information if this is of interest to anyone.
