Nicholas C. Heady. 11th Ind. Co. G. Son of Ammon and Catherine Spencer-Heady, was born in Boone Co., Ind., Jan 9, 1845. Comrade Heady was engaged as a farmer when the gloom of Civil war settled over our fairland: he was enrolled as a private in Co G, 11th I.V.I., Lew Wallace's Regt., at Indianapolis, Ind., March 14, 1865. He was stationed at Baltimore, Md, at this time doing guard and garrison duty in the city and at Fort McHenry and Fort Marshall. During his service he contracted chronic diarrhea, heart, liver, spleen and kidney troubles, he was confined in the hospital at Fort McHenry for sixteen days from chronic diarrhea and general disability in June and July, 1865. He was discharged with his regiment at Indianapolis, Ind., Aug 9, 1865. April 4, 1866, he was united in marriage in Boone county, to Nancy McReynolds, daughter of Peter and Rachael Stevenson-McReynolds; she departed this life in 1883; their union was blessed with one daughter, Rebecca. On March 13, 1884, he was again married at Jamestown, Ind., to Sarah Lafoe, daughter of Brookin and Mary Samuel-Lafoe, she was born in 1861, in Boone Co., Ind. They have four children: Samuel, George, Claude, and Kittie. Comrade Heady has long been one of the honored members of the Christian church four miles North-east of Jamestown, ever active in all church work since he was 17 years old. He is a member of Calumet Tribe O.R.M., Lodge, 166, also an honored member of Antetum Post, 162, holding the office of O.D. Comrade Heady is living a retired life at Jamestown, Ind.
