Leslie Heaps Long Lost cousin originally from Barrow (England)
I am trying to get in touch with a Mr Leslie Heaps for my mother. Her name is Marie Verity (nee McCormick). He and my mum are full bloodied cousins and she and my aunt are the only ones left on this side of the family now.
As she was telling me all about her cousins and family I thought it would be nice if I could trace him for her as a surprise.
My mum is now in her middle 70s.
From what she has told me Leslie Heaps went to live in Canada many years ago, his sisters Peggy and Eileen also emigrated although Eileen returned to England because she was homesick.
Leslie's mother, Lily Heaps (nee Toal), was the sister of my grandmother Frances Toal, there were quite a few brothers and sisters-(His and my mums Aunts and Uncles)-
Frances ( my grandmother)
Lily ( Leslie's Mother)
Molly
Jimmy
Harry
Les
Alice
My mum said that Leslie was brought up on the Vulcan estate in Barrow-in-Furness in England, he had the two sisters, Peggy and Eileen and 3
younger brothers all with names beginning with the letter B of which their mother (Lily) had a saying about.
Leslie was in the cycling club and used to cycle from Barrow all the way to Preston!
His nickname by the family was Lal or Lalla. He was very fond of his Uncle Harry in Preston.
He may not remember my mum (Marie McCormick) she knew his sister Peggy more because they were at school together.
My mum was quite close to Peggy and was always fighting the cruel kids who pulled off her beret, she said she always got into trouble off the sisters in the Catholic school.
Leslie will probably remember my late Aunty Kathleen who married Ted Woodburn and my late Aunty Maureen who married Charlie Bamford and he may also remember my Uncle Eddie who was killed in the war.
It would be nice to hear from my Mums cousin Leslie or any of his family, she cannot remember where he went to live after he lived in Canada and she thought that he and his wife had 3 sons, but this may have changed. She remembers her Aunty Lily going over many times to visit Peggy and Leslie over the years.
Thankyou for reading this message, I hope to hear from someone in the family who may know Leslie Heaps or his sister Peggy.
