I am interested in your Benjamin Heater that left Henry Co, IA in 1852 and traveled to Yamhill County, Oregon.
My gr-gr-grandfather, George Heater, b: abt 1813 in Virginia, was living in Yamhill County before 1856. I don't know exactly when he arrived there, but I'm wondering if he was on the same wagon train as Benjamin, and if this could be his brother also.
I thought it unusual that on the 1880 census George's daughter, Nancy Heater, told the census taker that both of her parents were born in Iowa.(she was living with another family as a housekeeper)Now, I believe the reason she thought this was probably because she knew that they have lived in Iowa before moving to Oregon, and just assumed they were born there.
Actually, George told the census taker in 1870 that he was born in Virginia, and her mother was born in Illinois. Also, in the 1870 census, George said that his father was of foreign birth.
According to earlier posts on this forum, Benjamin had a brother George. This all seems to fit.Let me know what you think. Debbie firstname.lastname@example.org
