I recently returned from Columbia Co, AR and found this information. It appears that she is from the James Bryanson Hathcock/Heathcock family.
In 1850, Brown Township, Union County, AR (before Columbia was formed??):
J. B. Heathcock, farmer, 32, b. TN
Nancy, 27, b. AL
John, 10, b. AL
Mary, 7, b. AL
Jane, 5, b. MS
Elisa, 3, b. AR
Rachel, 1, b. AR
Note that Caroline is not on this census.
In 1853, J.B.Heathcock pays 1 poll tax for Columbia Co.
P.O. Atlanta, Brown Township, now in Columbia County, Arkansas (taken June 30, 1860) 1860 census has: HH#430/441:
Bryanson Hathcock, farmer, 41, b. TN
Nancy, 35, b. AL
Caroline, 20, b. AL
John, 18, b. AL
Mary, 16, b. AL
Jane, 14, b. MS
Elizabeth, 12, b. AR
Rachel, 10, b. AR
Aramanta or Aranesta (this name was hard to read), 7, female, b. AR
Doverson, 4, male, b. AR
Francis, 10/12 months, female, b. AR
Then, in 1880, the estate property of James B. Hathcock appears in administrative court records. I looked at these records and it appears that his land is sold to settle his estate. I couldn't find any family on these records (about three pages of court documents).
Where was Caroline in 1850? Is she a daughter or did she come from Alabama and join the family sometime before the 1860 census? What happened to her after Samuel Kitchens died on October 1, 1865? The estate records of Samuel Kitchens lists four children, but they might be from the first wife.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
