The info I have is that my great-grandfather James Heaton was at least 1/2 Cherokee Indian. His Mother was Sarah Martin a full blood Cherokee Indian.
I never knew the Oneida Indians to be in Louisiana.I thought they were mostly north in New York.
Suppossedly, ggf James Heaton's father was a Scotchman Richard Heaton per marriage license to my great-grandmother Isabel Angeline Percy. I also thought ggf James' father may be Levi Alexander Heaton but I don't doubt James' Heaton name may have been gotten from a book as you mentioned in your original query as I haven't been able to prove a connection to these other Heatons except what ggf James states on the marriage license.
The info I have for Milton is he was born 27 Jul 1903 in New Orleans, La. and died Oct 1986 in Humble, Texas. Is this your ggf Milton?
Raymond Heaton was born 1909 in New Orleans, La. I don't have any other info for him.
James Heaton, Jr. was born Feb. 1893 in New Orleans and died 07 Sep 1951.
My gm Clothilde was born 1886, married 1906 and died 1971.
My ggm Isabel Angeline Heaton died 29 Jan 1912.The family was split up when she died.Milton and Raymond were very young at this time and it seems they may have been raised by older brother James Heaton, Jr. and maybe moved away to Texas. ggf James Heaton re-married a lady named Ada Mays. My gm Clothilde was the oldest and already married. There was also a younger sister Salome who went to live with other relatives.
It would be wonderful if you or your dad could do the paternal dna test. It may help to resolve some issues as to Indian, Scotch, etc.I have used the FamilyTree DNA service before with good results and I think they have a test for only $99.I have absolutely no connection with this company. You can check out there website for more info if you are interested or go thru the Southern California Genealogy Society for a discounted price. You do not need to be a member.
