Another descendant, Kenneth Hedgpeth, says some of the family spelled it that way. But I am sure it was Hudspeth when it came to America.
One surname dictionary I referenced says that Hudspeth, a common name in NC, is interchangeable with Hedgepeth (note the extra E), and adds that the origin or meaning of the name is unknown, other than that it started apparently in England. Do you have nay further info on it?
As for hiding my email address, this is for security reasons, because a couple of years ago scammers were gathering email addresses and names from places like this, and were thus able to send out some very convincing scam emails because they looked so personalized. Besides, I think it is best to exchange most info here within the forum, for other researchers to see.
