Hudspeth name may have originated from Hex tildspeth in 1160 A.D., the name of the granddaughter of Donalbane, King of Scots. It is a very old name, some historians say it means "Hedge Path" & possibly was spelled Hedgepeth or some variation when they lived in Northumberland, England in 1400. There is a Hudspeth coat-of-arms; there were knights in old Scotland & in England who bore the name Hudspeth. By early 1700's they came across to the American colonies & settled in Virginia, before dispersing into North & South Carolina, Georgia, KY., Tenn., & ARK. where my line came from to TX. The line that came from Ralph of VA decided to spell their name Hudspeth, which is my line.
