I have this under my notes, you might want to check the FTW record:
[v45t0686.ftw]
Peter married Abigail Bracken about 1823, probably inBuncombe Co., North Carolina. No marriage records have been found.By 1850, according to the Federal Census, Peter and Abigail were living in Cherokee Co., North Carolina. They had seven children at this time.Nancy, George, James Bracken, Washington, Andrew L., Sarah A. and Catherine.
According to the 1860 Lawrence Co., Alabama Federal Census, Peter was living in the household of his son, James Bracken Hefner. Abigail is not listed.Peter's daughters, Nancy and Sarah, were also living in James Bracken Hefner's household.Peter's son, Washington, was living next door. His other two sons, Andrew and George were living in DeKalb Co., ALabama.Peter's youngest daughter, Catherine, has not been located on the 1860census.
In 1870, Peter Hefner was living with his son, Andrew, in Lawrence Co., Alabama.Peter is found in 1880, in Hillsboro, Lawrence Co., Alabama. He is in the home of his oldest daughter, Nancy, and her second husband, W. T. Whitlow.
There is no record of when or where Peter Hefner died.Bill Luper, of Houston, Texas, said that he has a copy of an old letter written by a Hefner lady in Tennessee to another in Texas. It refered to "getting someone to go down and bring Peter home".
My line follows James Bracken Hefner, if you have info to share.
