My 4th great-grandfather, John Teaney, owned a farm in Providence Twp. of then Philadelphia Co. (now Montgomery Co.)that adjoined the farm of a John Hileigh who I believe is your Henry Heilig. John Teaney bought his land in April 1762 and your Henry Heilig bought his in Dec. 1762.John Teaney's oldest son Henry and oldest daughter Elizabeth married the children, Susanna and John of John Henry Highly/Hileigh/Heiligh and Susanna Rittenhouse. Our Teaney family now records the Heilig family as Highly based on John Teaney's Will which refers to his daughter as Elizabeth Highly.
John Teaney arrived in Philadelphia in September 1732 on the ship Mary from Rotterdam.Arrival records in Philadelphia list his name as Henrick Teany (age 19), Hance Henrick (X) Tany and Hans Henrich (X).Teany.He could not write; therefore signed with (X) instead of his signature.Teaney is not thought to be his German name but that rather how the English-speaking official understood the name as pronounced in German. He was either German or German-Swiss decent. We do not know his original surname.
Do you know for sure when Henry Heilig arrived in America?I have seen references to both his arrival in 1720 on the ship Polly and in 1745 on the ship Peggy from Amsterdam whose Master was Capt. Abercrombie.I have not found any records for either arrival.Do you know his birthplace and the names of his parents.
I have seen the date of his marriage to Susanna Rittenhouse as 1729;this seems about right based on the ages of their children. Is this date correct? What were the full names of his children and are their dates of birth?I have seen conflicting information.
