Hello Dick, I saw your postings over the last few months.I'm another Heise relative, too.Lynn is one of my cousins that we just found a few months ago.My mom was a Heise before she married a Holmes. Her dad was Louis Charles Heise and his father was Arthur Heise.Lynn's grandmother Augusta was my grandfather Louis' sister.
Lynn sent me pictures of Ludwig's birthday party and his obituary from the Baltimore newspaper in 1897.I've been working on finding some immigration and census information and started by looking in the city directories of Baltimore. I have not been able to find out when Ludwig came over, other than his obituary stated he "arrived in 1850."I tried the Baltimore ports, New York, and Philadelphia without any luck so far.But our library in Miami doesn't have a lot, unless you're looking for Florida genealogy.
My mom is 74 and is very curious about her dad's family. Her dad and mom apparently split up during WWII and she never saw him after 1948.I have a picture of Louis, as a jpg file, if you'd like to see it.He was a fireman in Philadelphia. We only recently found out that he had died in New Jersey (May 5, 1997) and then Lynn found me on the genforum and that's when we discovered the Heise's weren't from Philadelphia, but from Baltimore. My mom was born in Philly, so we just figured the family was from there, although she does recall riding a train to a farm in Maryland during the summer to visit 2 aunts who lived there (turned out to be Augusta and Marie, Louis' sisters). My mother knew Lynn's mother, but since they were all teenagers when Louis left home, they lost touch with the whole family.Lynn apparently didn't even realize that Louis had children, although he apparently remarried and did keep in touch with his 2 sisters and with Lynn's mom.
I've been trying to get a copy of Louis's obituary, if it exists from the Cape May newspaper.Lynn was kind enough to send me some pictures of her grandmother and Aunt Marie, as well as Ludwig's obituary and a copy of Adolph's 1-page will.I have those as jpg files too.
Would love to correspond with you, if you don't mind.My mom was astonished to find out she actually has cousins living around the country.
