Hi there again Gillian
So sorry about the mixed up nature of my replies to you but I have just been reading all of your messages. This one in particular is fascinating because I can verify what you have just said and can go back further for you to the 1600's.
Yes, Joseph Hellaby (died 24 June 1834 ) and married Jane Doxey (died 1837).His father was John Hellaby who married Dorothy Orme. John's father was John as well (gets confusing!) who was born in 1701 and married Sarah Spencer.(this John is my father's great, great, great, great, great grandfather). His father was also John born 1663 and married Elizabeth Newton.Guess what?! Yes, his father was John of Wirksworth, Derbyshire, who died in 1694 and his father was William (and the records have his surname as HELLOBIE ) of Wirksworth, a blacksmith who married Catherine Hardinge. He died in 1689.This is as far as the family tree goes and we are currently trying to find ways and means of researching back even further.
I hope this helps and I hope that I have got all this in the right order. It is pretty mind blowing stuff but fascinating!
Kind Regards
Cordelia Ellaby
