BOB COLEMAN HELLUMS, 61, of Houston died in a car accident on Monday, July 28, 2003. Mr. Hellums was born in Houston, TX on Aug. 16, 1941 to Earle C. Hellums, a prominent oil industry leader, and Mary Louise Hellums. He brightened the lives of everyone who knew him and he will be sorely missed by all. Mr. Hellums attended The University of Texas in Austin, the University of St. Thomas in Houston and The University of Madrid in Spain. He had a Masters Degree in languages and was exceptionally fluent in Spanish, Italian and French. He was a retired independent language interpreter. He had an exceptional singing voice and sang at countless weddings, church services and church productions such as the Messiah at First Methodist Church in Alvin, TX. Mr. Hellums is survived by his sister, Suzan B. Smith and husband James C. Smith, Jr. and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Friends are invited to visitation with the family from 5:00 - 8:00 pm Friday, August 1, 2003 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079 at Eldridge Pkwy. Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, August 2, 2003 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Memorial Oaks Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Victoria Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Oaks Cemetery with Karl Hagemeier, MD, Kim Kincannon, J. Dixie Beal, D. Wayne Beal, Russell S. Stanger III, Tommy McGaughey, Nelson Hellums and Alan Beal serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Owen Beal, Harold Beal, Dixie Beal, Jess Henry Beal, Russell S. Stanger Jr, DVM, Edgar McGaughey and Lynn Brownlow.
